Tech giant Tencent is hiring extensively right now.

The company has 8,411 jobs on its careers portal, offering candidates roles in countries including China, the UK, and Singapore. The company is also hiring for more than 300 roles in the US, mostly based in California.

Tencent is one of China’s “BAT” firms, an acronym that comprises Baidu, Tencent, and Alibaba and mimics Silicon Valley’s “GAFA” moniker for Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon. It’s one of the world’s largest companies, recently overtaking Meta to become tenth most valuable company by

. Its founder Pony Ma is currently estimated to be worth almost $50 billion, according to Bloomberg.

Like the Silicon Valley firms, Tencent’s tentacles have spread. It’s best known for its popular “super-app” WeChat and Chinese-language version Weixin, used by more than 1 billion people. It’s a gaming powerhouse, second only to Sony by revenue, thanks to the successes like “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.” Elsewhere, it invested about $20.6 billion last year across 265 startups deals, estimates from Chinese market intelligence portal ITJuzi show.

Tencent is currently hiring for machine-learning engineers, software developers, and data scientists, as well as jobs in marketing and recruitment.

The firm does not list out salaries. But like all companies with operations in the US, Tencent must disclose visa applications for foreign workers hired to America, which includes salary information.

Insider looked at disclosure data from 2020 and 2021 and estimated that it made 118 offers, mostly for roles in software development, engineering, and data research. Our data only shows base salary, and does not include additional stock awards or bonuses. They also don’t cover all employee offers, just those made to workers coming on a visa.
