New Big 12 commissioner says conference is ‘open for business’ when it comes to expansion

College or university athletics are likely to seem incredibly different in the coming decades, and new NCAA Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark is properly conscious. 

At Huge 12 Media Days, Yormark was questioned about most likely introducing teams from the Pac-12 conference, two months immediately after USC and UCLA announced their shift to the Major 10 conference in 2024.

“As I mentioned in my opening opinions, we’re checking out all solutions,” Yormark said on Wednesday. “And we’re open up for company. And optionality is great, and we’re vetting all of them. I assume it is honest to say I’ve acquired a whole lot of cell phone calls, a large amount of interest. We are discovering those people amounts of desire. Nothing at all is imminent.”

Subsequent the news out of Los Angeles, the Pac-12 also claimed they ended up seeking to develop.

Higher education athletics is relocating toward acquiring two super conferences in the SEC and the Significant Ten, with Texas and Oklahoma moving from the Big 12 to the SEC in 2025. The additions of USC and UCLA to the Massive 10 adjusted the landscape of university football as educational facilities consider to place themselves moving ahead.

Although the Massive 12 will be dropping Oklahoma and Texas in the future few many years, the convention will be incorporating four educational facilities in 2023, with BYU, UCF, Houston, and Cincinnati signing up for the conference. 

Yormark also talked over the new period of Identify, Graphic, and Likeness (NIL), saying that he’s a proponent for players profiting off of their manufacturers.

“I can say at a high level, I’m an advocate of NIL,” Yormark instructed reporters Wednesday. “I obtained my toes soaked at some diploma at Roc Nation, in which we experienced been engaged in NIL. From a own place of look at [I] have not definitely spoken to our important stakeholders about it. I believe there demands to be guardrails. There in all probability requirements to be uniformity. And maybe the convention requires to choose a larger position in what NIL appears like transferring forward.”

Yormark will get more than responsibilities as Significant 12 commissioner on Aug. 1.
