Akron Mattress Co. opens new facility

DOWNTOWN AKRON — The Akron Mattress Co. has opened a 40,000-square-foot facility at 122 W. Market St. The site includes the business’ world headquarters, manufacturing, retail, and research and development departments.
According to company officials, they also plan to open a Giant Pillow Factory to make pillows that are 3 feet wide early next year, with the first load to be donated to the Battered Women’s Shelter of Summit and Medina Counties.
The business also has a factory outlet at 5 N. Arlington St., with a selection of over 4,000 mattresses available. The outlet can be reached by calling 330-535-1178.

Both sites are open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
According to company officials, the employee-owned business started with the original members secretly being helped by Clem Raymon, of San-Hygiene Mattress and Box Spring Co., who sent over his best sewers to train the new business’ employees to sew and build mattresses. The company bought out the Dolly Madison Mattress Co. in 2005 and recently acquired The Federated Mattress Co. of Pittsburgh.
